Dragon Rider - Chapter 1

"Dragon Rider"

Chapter 1

Back when I was still a kid, I was all about dragons. It was because of dad. He would tell me fascinating stories about dragons all the time. At times, after telling me a story, he would then let me ride on his back. We would pretend that he was a dragon and that I was a brave warrior. I would cry though whenever I would fall accidentally because of moving too much (some brave warrior). I get to laugh whenever I get to remember those moments. "Let's go dragon! Nothin's gonna stop us from rescuing the princess!" then I'd fall, then would cry. Poor brave warrior. Anyway, sometimes I would play with my friends. They're not that interested in dragons though. They were all about boards, brooms and flying. There was this one girl though, Ruby. Little did I know she loved dragons too. One day, my friends introduced her to me. They told me she was in to dragons too. To cut it short, we became good friends. We became quite close. At times, she'd go to our house and together we would listen to dad as he tells us stories about dragons. Sometimes, we would even pretend that we were characters from one of dad's dragon stories. That I was a prince and she was a princess (because she refuses to be the dragon). That she was being held captive by an evil dragon and I was to save her with a dragon of my own.

I'm not good at being serious. Sorry.
The story might get a bit "cranky" from here on.
But I guess it'll be funny no matter what I do 'coz I'm a crazy b*st*rd. =)

After a lot of years, Ruby and I both became acrobats. I couldn't believe I was holding my very own bow. It felt awesome. It felt so awesome I couldn't stop shooting arrows randomly. Ruby would just laugh at me and would call me "ignorant" whenever I go crazy with my bow. After almost killing Ruby accidentally by shooting an arrow over her head pretending there was an apple, I stopped my bad habit of "shooting arrows like I just don't care." It was a good thing she was busy counting all of her coins and didn't noticed the arrow passed over her head or else she'd get furious andwould really shoot one in between my eyes. She did wonder why I stopped shooting arrows randomly though. I would just say, "I'm afraid I might accidentally kill someone." =)

I was still interested in dragons when I learned how to fly. I kept on telling Ruby how much I wanted to see one. She said I might pee on my pants when one suddenly shows up in front of me (whatever). Back then, the garden of rhisis was a special place for me and Ruby. Whenever I or she would have a problem, we would go to the garden and would talk about it there. We chose the garden because there are no people there most of the time. If one of us goes missing, we knew were to look, the garden of rhisis. Although the garden didn't have much of a view to offer, it didn't matter to us. All we needed was each other. Soon, we became "us". That wouldn't be so surprising anymore. We were always together since we were kids. Falling in love with each other was inevitable.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway, dad brought home what seemed to be an egg one day. It was really big. Dad said it was a dragon's egg. I couldn't believe it was one at first but then reality kicked in and made me believe it really was one. Dad said they found it under a really big dragon that has just been killed in Volcane. Knowing that the egg has been left alone, he brought it along with him. I then showed the egg to Ruby. She kept on laughing at me 'coz I kept on rubbing the egg with the palm of my hands like it was my first time ever touching anything. We all hoped that it would still hatch. We kept it warm by placing it on top of one of our beds and covered it with bedsheets and all sorts of clothes. We all knew that the dragon that may come out of the egg may turn into a monster someday though.

Cold Spaghetti

"Cold Spaghetti"

by: Reggie B. dela Torre

I fell in love with him because he never stopped trying to make me feel the same way he does.
He never gets tired of doing all sorts of stuffs for me.
Even if I pretend I don’t care,
Even if I tell him he’s not my type,
Even if I try and stay away from him…
He still goes to me and would do all those sweet stuffs for me.

I actually don’t like her at first because of her strict attitude.
She would raise a brow, give that “I don’t care” facial expression
or would just simply walk away when I try to approach her or when trying to open up a convo with her.
But for some reason, the very reason why I didn’t liked her at first became the reason why I got attracted to her.
(over-)Optimistic as I am, I still tried to befriend her.
I would tease her and when she gets annoyed, I would tell her she still looks beautiful even when she’s grumpy…
Then would take it back by telling her she looks more beautiful when she smiles.

We became close. Really close.
We’d share stories about our lives, share secrets,
watch movies together, have coffee together and all of those kind of stuffs…
I love to cook and he loves to paint.
Often times, he joins contests in painting.
Whenever he joins contests, I would feel abandoned because he puts much of his attention on his works.
It makes me wanna wish he’d stop joining those contests.

She’s my inspiration in joining contests.
That’s why I give my all in doing my entries.
I want to make myself worthy for her.
That even a nutcrack like me could have achievements.
At times, she’d visit and would bring me some spaghetti that she made.
Spag’s my favorite by the way.
It would end up just being in the fridge though because I’m just to busy to do anything else.
She’d just observe me for hours as I paint.
And when she gets hungry, she’d get some spag from the fridge and eat.
She gets too lazy to heat it up so she eats it cold.

I know he loves me.
But what he loves more is what I don’t know.
Is it me or his passion in painting?
He’d do his paintings like I’m not even around.
He wouldn’t even bother to eat or just taste the spaghetti that I so hard made for him.
Sometimes, I would just pretend I’m hungry and would get some spaghetti from the fridge
But my real purpose was to not let him see me about to cry.

I just love her spaghetti
I only get to eat it before I go to bed though.
Like her, I get too stubborn to heat it up so I eat it cold as well.
Can’t wait to finish my entry so I can start my surprise for her.

The “eating cold spaghetti while watching him paint” routine went on for weeks.
I couldn’t hold it in any longer.
I miss him so much.
The worse thing is that he’s there but just too busy.
I cried one time while eating the cold spaghetti.
He noticed me crying and asked me what’s wrong…
I couldn’t answer him.
I just walked away and went home.

I hope she’ll love the surprise I’m about to give her.
I only get the time to continue doing it when she’s not around.
I hope she’s not mad at me.
She stopped visiting me since the day I saw her cry…

Right after the contest, I’ll go see her.
The present’s already wrapped.

A day after the contest he joined, his mom called me and told me to meet her.
Upon getting to the venue, she gave me a box and a letter.
She said it was a gift he was yet to give me.
She was crying…
And she said…

“He’s already gone…”
“He got shot by someone upon going somewhere right after the contest. His wallet and accessories were stolen. All that remained was the box and the letter.”

This is what was written in the letter:

Cold Spaghetti reminds me of how patient you are...
How understandable you are...
And that you care for me and love me...

I learned to love eating cold spaghetti because of those reasons...

I was gonna paint a portrait of you...
But a painting of cold spaghetti just seems so
meaningful

I love you...
so much...

and I'm sorry for not showing you I do recently.
It's hart to do the painting without you not getting to see it
before its done.
Again, I love you...

Hope you'll love the painting I made you.

Along with it was a painting of a spaghetti.
Colors used were only shades of blue.

Life is truly full of uncertainties.
I guess a lesson that can be learned from this story is to show and let know those persons you love that you really love them before its too late.
We'll only get to live once.
What you have to do is make that enough :)

Double Dragon Cloak and J'sCWS

Photobucket

After 33 days, I finally got the Double Dragon Cloak! My baby still hasn't received her's though. Hopefully, she'll get her's by tomorrow. 33 days - so much has happened. Yet, it seemed like only yesterday when the Roll Call event started.

I always wanted to have a groom set. Baby already has her bride set. Crap! Its a good thing people at the collecting area are quite entertaining at times. So much for grinding. I love the items that the wedding gift box may contain though.

Broken Boundaries - Rise of The New Alignments

Chronicles of Roika:

Broken Boundaries

Rise of the New Alignments

A lot has changed after a few years. Fear of the vampires no longer existed within the hearts of everyone. Still, the people relied greatly on the energy shell. After a lot of improvements, even the energy shell became perfect. After its final upgrade, not a single energy shell ever malfunctioned again. Also, through intensive research, hidden documents and articles have been found about what the vampires really were, where they came from and… Roika’s history. Everyone now knows everything.

Through vigorous training, some developed new spells and abilities. Some even learned devastating skills. Alignments now weren’t limited to four, there became many.

Each new alignment has their own specialties. Most of them laid low though for fear of having their unique abilities stolen from them. Abilities can be learned. That fact made some alignments decide to isolate themselves from the others. Some went to distant places, some stayed and just minimized their interaction with others, some didn’t mind at all and just continued living normally. Though new alignments existed, only the summoners were recognized and was made the fifth alignment. Not all can become summoners though. Those with ill intents were not allowed to become summoners. Only those strong enough and kind hearted were allowed to be summoners. Of the five alignments, the summoners possessed the greatest power. And though envied by many, the summoners were still loved because of their kind attitude towards everyone. They would even help others train at times. Being a summoner at that time… was prestigious.

Everyone becoming a whole lot stronger wasn’t all that good. Strange occurrences started happening all across Roika when certain guilds came about. Some people if not found dead, went missing. A guild said to have been doing some of the crimes was the Sanguinarians. Sanguinarians was the name given to an unknown guild of murderers that brought terror to everyone. They killed whoever they wanted to kill. They did whatever they wanted to do. And because not much was known about them, there was no stopping them.

The vampires were still the top problem though. Everyone still needed to be within energy shells to be safe from them. But now that time has changed, the leaders decided it was time to confront the vampires once again… for the last time.

The next battle was to end the vampire’s reign.

Broken Boundaries - The Visit

Chronicles of Roika:

Broken Boundaries

The Visit

Yes, there should actually be a fourth class – Acrobats. But it was only then when the fourth class was introduced. There was just not enough time to make a new alignment. We were at war. It wasn’t a good time to be training acrobats. We only needed the experienced, the three existing classes. Still, Michael knew acrobats would be needed so he gave all the scrolls about acrobats to one of his most trusted subordinates. On the floating lands, after everything calmed down, training for acrobats started. There were now four alignments. After a few weeks, something terrible again happened, all of the remaining beautiful creatures within our new paradise transformed again into hideous creatures. But luckily, they weren’t as strong and as aggressive as of those from below. We could take them on. We, the humans, along with the other races were still in control. This went of for weeks, then for months, then for years. After many generations, everyone assumed nothing tragic will ever happen again. Monsters may be among with us all, but they mean not much danger. Nothing tragic will ever happen again – WRONG!

Another catastrophe happened. We had an unexpected visit. Horrific human-like beings suddenly showed up one night. No one knew what they were. The reason was because no records were made about the past. For some reason, telling stories about what had happened before became like a taboo. No one knew about what had happened before. No one knew where the unfamiliar beings came from. All they knew was that they had to be eliminated.

The people called the beings, “vampires” for they had characteristics of a vampire. To cut it short, people were tormented by the vampires ever night. Luckily, the people discovered the vampires were weak against dragon’s blood. The vampires hated dragon’s blood. That’s what the people used to be safe against the vampires. Houses were painted with dragon’s blood. Everyone wore a necklace with a bottle containing dragon’s blood. Unfortunately, it soon became useless. New types of vampires came about – winged ones. Everyone had to rely on the project developed by the psychipers’ guild, the “energy shell”. It was a device that would cast out a protective barrier to protect shelters from the vampires.

Although some malfunctioned, people continued to use the energy shell. After all, it was the energy shell or nothing. The people then began training non-stop during the day and just rest during the night. Everyone believed being stronger was the key to get rid of the vampires. Everyone trained hard. Everyone got stronger. Sadly, it still wasn’t enough. The vampires still kept on winning every battle. Yes, at times, the people would go battle with the vampires hoping they would win but no. The vampires were still just too strong. Finally, the people decided to just focus on their training and stop battling the vampires for awhile. They had to. Their numbers greatly diminish after every battle. If they kept on battling with the vampires, it would be the end.

Broken Boundaries - Ascension

Chronicles of Roika:

Broken Boundaries

Ascension

We’re but mere powerless mortals living in a world filled with captivating sceneries and harmless inhabitants - Paradise. But it was just too good to be forever. Before, we had nothing to fear, a world of ideal perfection and nothing more to want. We were contented. Sadly, the other part of reality got to us. Aside from what good we had, the complete opposite came. All of what’s bad suddenly came about. After decades of living in a world that seemed like paradise, one of the almighty ones (Shade) brought us hell. Our magnificent creatures turned into terrifying entities. They began killing us. We didn’t know what to do. We didn’t know anything about fighting. We didn’t know how to defend ourselves. All we ever could do… was hide.

Miraculously, something great happened. We were given the strength to fight back and the ability to fly. Along with the strength given to us were powerful skills we could also use against the minions of darkness. Unfortunately, it still wasn’t enough. We became powerful but we had no knowledge about fighting. We became strong but didn’t know how to use our strength. Not one of us could wield a sword right. After some time, we finally learned to use our gifts. We had to. There became three alignments, three different classes. There became the mages, the mercenaries and the assists. We were only to become one of the three. Each day we become even stronger. Each day we learn new techniques in fighting. And through mastery, new paths to being something greater opened to us. There became the elementers and the psychipers, the blades and the knights, the billposters and the ringmasters.

Unfortunately, we weren’t the only ones becoming stronger. The monsters seemed to be evolving as well. Before we knew it, new types of terror were already among us. We began battling zombies, gargoyles, orcs, dragons, sometimes even rangdas. But what we feared the most were the horrific vampires. Just when we were about to abandon all hope, several lands began to move. They suddenly began to float and continue rising up to the sky. We flew our way to the rising grounds believing going there would help us be away from harm. The unwanted was left behind. Upon getting to the floating lands, there were a few monsters but we all managed to eliminate them. We managed to successfully fly our way to the rising grounds because some actually sacrificed themselves and stayed behind. They fought the monsters who were trying to stop us from getting to the rising grounds. One of those who stayed behind was Michael, the great man who was the leader of us all. He was the one who trained the most and shared the knowledge he gained to all of us so we would have a fighting chance against all the monsters we’d get to encounter. He was the one who founded the three great alignments… and the fourth.

RPG Maker XP

Back in elementary I made a game of my own. I never told anyone about it because they might think I'm weird (which I am... kidding) or something. It was a Role-Playing Game, kind of like a world of my own.

When I got in to to high school, I made it more complicated. I never get the chance to finish it though believing I won't get the chance to share it with others.

Through time, the game I made got better and better (well, at least I think it did). But still, the number one problem remained. The game was more of a hassle. You need papers, pen, the knowledge and mastery of playing the game and of course, knowing how to deal with basic math operations. No one really enjoyed the game (but me).

     Then, I stumbled unto something.
RPG Maker XP

WAM! Finally, a software that could help me with my problem and help me create games!
I was like Photobucket

Anyway, I don't know if how many of you guys out there use RPG Maker XP/VX in creating games but if you do...

If you do then that would be great. Maybe we could discuss some things about RPGMXP. Sorry, got addicted to those onion head GIFs. They're so cute xD

Imma post some of the maps I've done soon =)
might also post tutorials for those interested in using the software =)

Why XP and not VX? I dunno. I just simply prefer XP than VX that's all.

Reign of the Unwanted

The End

He didn't make it. Their device malfunctioned. I got to him when it was morning already. I didn't know something went wrong for I was somewhere far from where he was. I'm glad I was at a place where I couldn't see them. I don't think I could just watch as their house is being infiltrated by vampires.

It felt like my soul shattered when I saw his body. He was my son. A piece of paper was still in his hands. The words written were... "Mom, Dad and Angie... I love you all so much." I couldn't help but cry.

I finally decided to play Flyff of gPotato. It sucks being a noob again! No other characters, no items, no penya, no one you know, nadda! It's back to noob-ility. I tried grinding immediately and damn it wasn't fun! I had no choice but to ask help from the other players. To my suprise, all of those whom I asked help from (so far) were really nice. Some didn't only gave me penya and items, they helped me in grinding too. Too bad I had to stop playing early so I could still study.

Anyway, to get faster penya, I thought of trying my luck at the...

Finally, it’s morning already. We’re to bring the devices to the gathering, probably to recharge it. I hope new new plans await us there.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 8

Chronicles of Roika:

Reign of the Unwanted

Anthony's Journal

Night 8

I just got back from Saint Morning. A project from the psychiper’s guild was introduced to us, the “Energy Shell”. It was a device to be placed on the roof of our houses. They showed us a demonstration. After setting all the adjustments and turning it on, the device casted out a barrier. The whole house was covered by it. The device was said to be still experimental though. But it was that or nothing. The dragon’s blood is useless now. The barrier was tested. Some of us were asked to try and break it but couldn’t. The device uses some sort of energy. It had an energy gauge. When all of the energy has been consumed, the device will then cease to function. The device can give us up to twelve hours of protection. Just enough to guard us from the vampires. I just hope nothing goes wrong.

-----------------------------------------------------

It’s dark now. All of the houses were now placed with energy shells. It worked well against the vampires. They couldn’t get through the barrier. They still give a fright though. My arm still hurts. My left arm got hit by an arrow while battling with the vampires last night. If it were my right, I’d have a hard time writing.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 7

Chronicles of Roika:

Reign of the Unwanted

Anthony's Journal

Night 7

Again, we burned the corpses of those who died this morning. As usual, we repainted the houses with dragon’s blood and had another gathering. Still, we are to battle them. But this time, it’s different. Acrobats, jesters, and rangers are the only ones to battle the vampires. They are to fly while shooting at them. On the other hand, we’re to stay at designated houses and just wait. When the archers do enough damage to them, it was only then when we would come out of our hiding and help them finish off the vampires. A signal will be made telling us to attack – firecrackers.

-----------------------------------------------------

It was dark already but the vampires weren’t showing up yet. The archers were already patrolling the area as they ride on the board/brooms. The vampires weren’t around. This went on for hours. Then, we suddenly heard what seemed to be a wing that flapped just above us. We didn’t close the windows because we were to wait for the signal. I saw one of the winged beings. It was nothing like the vampires we saw. It was more human than vampire. It held two swords... just like a blade. It went to where the archers were. There was more than one of those winged vampires. They were many. They held weapons just like ours. Some carried bows, some carried swords, some carried axes... they all held a weapon or two. The vampires without wings then suddenly showed up. The archers were probably in a state of shock. They were being slaughtered by the winged vampires.

We couldn’t just watch them being killed. So, we went out and tried to help them. Our necklaces helped us a bit against the hideous vampires on land. But still, we had winged ones attacking us from above. Some would even cast spells at us. We were being killed mercilessly. It was too late to return to the house. It was probably even useless to be in one that time. We had no choice but to keep on fighting. After gruesome hours which felt like an eternity, the vampires fled.

We’re still going to have another gathering later. I just wanted to write down what happened earlier now. I’m beginning to lose hope. I can’t believe I survived. My family made it as well. But if a miracle doesn’t happen tonight, I fear it’s the end.

Night 6

I just woke up. We repainted the houses with dragon’s blood and had a gathering this morning. Everyone was tired. All of us just wanted to sleep. The plan was still the same. We’re still to battle the vampires tonight.

-----------------------------------------------------

We lost! They moved like they really know what they were doing. At first, we could still take them on. But just after a few hours, we couldn’t handle them anymore. They got too unpredictable. We started riding our boards/brooms. Some rushed to nearby houses. From above, we could see the vampires move so fast as they attack and dodge attacks at the same time. When everyone was already at a safe place, the vampires fled. We tried to follow them but we keep on losing them because some areas were just too dark. Rangers would shoot flaming arrows at them to see them but it was just no good. If we would fly low, they would reach us. We failed.

Night 5

I still feel sleepy. My little sister woke me up. She was holding my pen. “You dropped your pen”. She adorably said. She then hugged me and left. Its going to be dark soon. I’m writing now because now’s the only time to update this journal (not really) of mine before facing the vampires again. I’m sure to write down lots of things after the battle (if ever I survive... Hahaha).

-----------------------------------------------------

It’s morning now. The vampires acted really strange. They just observed us. They rarely attacked. When we try to charge unto them, they would just run away from us. But we knew they weren’t afraid. We tried to get them to where the traps were. Some would trigger the traps and get hit or get blown up. But after awhile, not a trap was then again triggered. At times, a vampire or two would suddenly charge unto our party but would immediately change directions and would get away from us. A fake attack? It seemed like they wanted to know how we would react on their attacks. We couldn’t surround them. They knew that we would. They’d run off to another dark area and hide there once we make a move.

Hide, observe and do a bit of test. That’s what they kept on doing. Spellcasters and archers would try to shower them with their all but ended up hitting everything but the vampires. They surely got better. The vampires that showed up were fewer than expected though. It seemed like they were only scouts sent out to know what we were capable of.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 4

Chronicles of Roika:

Reign of the Unwanted

Anthony's Journal

Night 4

We succeeded! The vampires retreated! There were casualties thought. But I’m glad none of them were any of my family members. The start of the fight was surprising. The vampires got many. It turned out that some of those who were killed by the vampires turned into vampires as well. I could recognize familiar faces that were killed during the previous battle. They were there. But they were now among the enemies. Our plan worked, especially at the beginning. The vampires underestimated us. They immediately attacked without hesitation. Our numbers helped tremendously during the battle. It was a good thing only few of those who died turned into vampires. The other corpses were probably too damaged to live again. The vampires were losing. They knew they had to retreat before even more of them die. And that’s what they did. They retreated.

It was a long hard-fought battle. I want to tell everything that happened but there was just too many. Flaris became a battlefield. Just try to imagine everyone teaming up to slay each and every vampire. There were parties with all sorts of classes everywhere. From land to air, it was a mess. There were acrobats, rangers and jesters that would shoot arrows from above. Everyone gave it their all. You could even see spellcasters sending off all sorts of elements to the vampires. The feeling was intense. Our opponents were strong... really strong. But somehow, it felt like victory was inevitable.

I can’t believe we won...

-----------------------------------------------------

Morning came. We rejoiced even more. The bodies of the vampires who got killed turned into ashes as the sun’s light reached them. Knowing those who would get killed by the vampires would turn into vampires, we burned the bodies of those who were killed earlier instead of just burying them. We didn’t liked it. We just had no choice. We wanted to ensure safety. It was for the best.

We still had a lot to do before we could rest. We repainted the houses and had another gathering. We were to battle them once more. The same plan was to be used. But this time, we added traps. We all knew where the traps were placed. We were to avoid those traps.

Night 3

We were told to simply stay inside our designated houses and just wait there ‘til morning. That night, that’s what we all did. We waited. The same thing happened. We could hear them. Although the house was painted with dragon’s blood and I was wearing the necklace, I was bothered. My imagination goes wild. It’s as if it would come true, that they would barge in and try to kill us all. Although troubled, I did my best trying to look and be calm. I didn’t want to look ill at ease and add more pressure to my companions. We just kept quiet. We couldn’t sleep. Though I didn’t think I wanted to anyway. What I do is write on my journal. It doesn’t help me get distracted though since what I write tells things about the vampires. As much as possible I write down each and every thing that has happened. I wanted to kill time by writing. It’s only during the night while waiting for morning to come that I write on my journal. Well, it’s not really a journal, just pieces of paper. Hahaha. This will be like a journal soon though. I want to make this into a personal book so that I may look back unto what we’ve been through during the reign of the vampires. I don’t know if I will live to tell the whole tale though.

It’s painful to think we have weapons yet we’re unable to use them. If only I was stronger. No, if only we were stronger. Yes, there are those who could battle the vampires one on one but only few are strong enough to do so. I hope the leaders will think of something by tomorrow to eliminate the vampires. I’m getting sick of just doing nothing.

-----------------------------------------------------

As usual, another gathering was held. I thought I was the only who got sick of just staying inside the house during the night. I was wrong. Most of us wanted to eliminate the vampires already. The problem is... how? We all knew we can’t beat them with just brute force. After a few hours, the others came and gathered up with us. The billposters, ringmasters, jesters, rangers... everyone. Everyone went to where we were. For some reason, we had a sudden boost of morale. It was if we could win against the vampires. A plan was then made. It was simple. To battle with the vampires... but, with strategy this time.

We were to form parties with different class combinations. For example, a party with two knights, two jesters, one ranger, two ringmasters and a blade. What’s important was we get to have a knight or two in a party, a melee and ranged fighter and a supporter. The role of each party member was significant. Lacking one could mean defeat. Knights are to receive upcoming attacks and have the vampires keep on attacking them. The ranged fighters are to attack the vampires as they are still at a distance. And when a vampire happens to get close to a party, it’s the melee fighters’ job to take care of them. It was everyone’s job to protect the supporters who cast support magic unto them. At least three parties would group together to ensure safety. For once, we felt confident. After we repainted all the houses with dragon’s blood, we waited. We waited. But this time, outside. I was with the party I was joined in. We could see all the other parties scattered around the area. Safety seemed certain.

I was still worried though. I kept thinking about my family. Especially my little sister who’s still five years old. I haven’t quite mentioned anything about my family yet though. I really love my little sister. I’d tell her stories, play with her, comfort her and even let her ride on my back. She just loves to ride on my back. Anyway, she’s with mom. I know she’ll take good care of her. I hope they’ll all be safe.

I usually write only during the night. But since we’re going to battle with the vampires later on, I’m writing on these pieces of papers now as we wait for it to get dark.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 2

Chronicles of Roika:

Night 2

It was quiet. Dead quiet. It was then when we heard footsteps. My heart pounded like it was about to jump out of my chest. The feeling was really intense. No one dared to peek out the closed windows or go out of the heavily locked doors. We could hear them. One of them went near the house I was staying in but didn’t come any closer. It was probably the dragon’s blood. How we wished it was morning already. Every minute felt like an eternity. We couldn’t sleep. It was like they know we could hear them.

Flying would be futile. Boards and brooms are useless. They’d jump on you before you could get on to your board/broom. One of the leaders also told us something about flying. It’s “Don’t use your boards and brooms if you want to live!” One of the survivors mentioned that he saw a vampire with wings. He’s the only one who got to see it though. He only had a glimpse of it for he said it was really fast. He saw it when a vampire charged unto him and knocked him down to the ground. He was on his back when he saw it passed by so quickly while he was on the ground. We didn’t really care if it was true or not. Because true or not, we’d still rather be safe in our houses. And we still don’t know what they are capable of. They might have some gravity disorder spell or something. But don’t get me wrong, I hate every moment of our hiding. We want to fight, to get rid of them... But, we also want to live.

---------------------------------------------

Finally, it was morning. We take a peek outside before heading out of the house. Assuming it was safe already, we went out. Others were already outside. I thought no one got killed. But then again, I was wrong. It turned out that there were five rangers who volunteered to observe the vampires last night. They were flying. They were told not to get off of their boards and just fly. They were asked to roam around Flaris and observe the vampires there. It was to know how the vampires would react on the dragon’s blood and to know where the vampires would hide. But they were found dead this morning. All five of them. They still have their necklaces on but the bottles were broken. Even their extra bottles too were found to be broken. It was a good thing we all stayed inside our houses. It seemed like the vampires knew we were going to use the dragon’s blood against them. After breaking the bottles, it was probably then when they attacked the rangers. A black feather was found on of the corpses. It seemed like the winged vampire was true after all. The unfamiliar feather confirmed its existence.

Several parties went out to find the hiding place(s) of the vampires. Yeah, rather than being even more afraid, they got really angry instead. The same people then started going to Volkane to get dragon’s blood again. We needed to wash off the blood painted on our houses and repaint it again with fresh dragon’s blood. The blood’s effect on the vampires might wear off if not replaced.

When the people who went to Volkane came back, everyone helped in repainting the houses with dragon’s blood. We finished repainting all the houses in just a short time. Another gathering by class was then held. We were at our usual area, by the hall. We were told that fighting the vampires with our necklaces on was no good. Even covering our whole body with dragon’s blood was said to be a stupid idea. They would just probably throw deadly things at us

After hours of searching, those who went out to find the hiding place(s) of the vampires returned. They failed.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 1

Chronicles of Roika:

Reign of the Unwanted

Anthony's Journal

Night 1

It was already dark. Most of the people were still outside. Suddenly, these creatures showed up from different directions. They looked really scary. Without warning, they attacked random people. They were fast... and powerful. They were heavily outnumbered yet they seemed to have no problem fighting us. We fought them ‘til it was dawn. Most of them left immediately right after feeding. They all left before the sun rose up.

An awful lot of people died.

When everything calmed down, we all gathered up in Saint Morning. Different locations were designated to each class. I was a blade, we were told to gather up in front of the hall. We were told about the vampires and ordered not to go out of our houses and just stay inside when it gets dark. So, why just stay inside our houses when they could easily destroy our doors, windows and walls? A story was told to us.

There was this family that was trying to find a safe place to avoid the vampires. The mother was carrying her baby. They were being guarded by the father. Soon, a vampire got to them. The father tried hard to get its attention and succeeded. He fought hard. He gave his all to save his family. Unfortunately, his opponent was just too strong for him. The father got badly wounded. When the vampire was about to finish him off, the mother suddenly approached the weakened man. The vampire was surprised. No, not because of the daring action of the woman, but rather, it was because of what the baby was wearing. It was a necklace given to her by her father and the vampire was looking at it with raging eyes. The vampire just stood back as if a barrier suddenly appeared around the three of them. Not wanting to go near them, it fled.

The questions then were... Why did the vampire let them be? Was it because of the baby or the baby’s necklace? What makes the baby or the necklace special?

We were told it was the necklace. No, it was what the necklace was holding. A Small bottle that contained a certain liquid, dragon’s blood. A plan was then thought out. It relied greatly on luck though. We needed to wear a necklace with a bottle containing dragon’s blood and have another one for spare just in case. We were also told to paint our doors, windows, roofs and walls with dragon’s blood. That’s the reason why we just have to stay inside when it gets dark. It was to be safe from the vampires assuming the dragon’s blood would work against them. If ever it doesn’t, we had a backup plan.

Right after the hearing, all of those who were able to go to Volkane went there. They weren’t that many. Actually, they weren’t many considering dragons are one of the strongest monsters in Roika. Only about less than a hundred went there. Almost half of them were ringmasters who volunteered to help out. Along with them were containers to be filled with dragon’s blood.

Those who were left behind were asked to help make the bottles needed for the necklaces. Everyone needed to make haste before it gets dark. By afternoon, those who went to Volkane returned. Each and every container was filled with dragon’s blood.

We were told to gather up by class again. Again, we were designated at the same place. There, we filled our bottles with dragon’s blood. We were told that as we were falling in line, others are already painting our houses with dragon’s blood.

Finally, we were all set. Each house was now filled with grouped individuals. We all wanted it to be that way just in case the vampires barge in. Carefully selected groups were chosen so that the number of individuals who can battle in a certain house will be enough to fend off the vampires. That was our way of ensuring protection. That was the backup plan. It takes about several men against a single vampire to make the fight “even”. Every house was now painted with dragon’s blood. Everyone now has a necklace on. Now, all we have to do is wait and hope for the best.
