Reign of the Unwanted - Night 2
Chronicles of Roika:
Reign of the Unwanted
Anthony's Journal
Night 2
It was quiet. Dead quiet. It was then when we heard footsteps. My heart pounded like it was about to jump out of my chest. The feeling was really intense. No one dared to peek out the closed windows or go out of the heavily locked doors. We could hear them. One of them went near the house I was staying in but didn’t come any closer. It was probably the dragon’s blood. How we wished it was morning already. Every minute felt like an eternity. We couldn’t sleep. It was like they know we could hear them.
Flying would be futile. Boards and brooms are useless. They’d jump on you before you could get on to your board/broom. One of the leaders also told us something about flying. It’s “Don’t use your boards and brooms if you want to live!” One of the survivors mentioned that he saw a vampire with wings. He’s the only one who got to see it though. He only had a glimpse of it for he said it was really fast. He saw it when a vampire charged unto him and knocked him down to the ground. He was on his back when he saw it passed by so quickly while he was on the ground. We didn’t really care if it was true or not. Because true or not, we’d still rather be safe in our houses. And we still don’t know what they are capable of. They might have some gravity disorder spell or something. But don’t get me wrong, I hate every moment of our hiding. We want to fight, to get rid of them... But, we also want to live.
---------------------------------------------
Finally, it was morning. We take a peek outside before heading out of the house. Assuming it was safe already, we went out. Others were already outside. I thought no one got killed. But then again, I was wrong. It turned out that there were five rangers who volunteered to observe the vampires last night. They were flying. They were told not to get off of their boards and just fly. They were asked to roam around Flaris and observe the vampires there. It was to know how the vampires would react on the dragon’s blood and to know where the vampires would hide. But they were found dead this morning. All five of them. They still have their necklaces on but the bottles were broken. Even their extra bottles too were found to be broken. It was a good thing we all stayed inside our houses. It seemed like the vampires knew we were going to use the dragon’s blood against them. After breaking the bottles, it was probably then when they attacked the rangers. A black feather was found on of the corpses. It seemed like the winged vampire was true after all. The unfamiliar feather confirmed its existence.
Several parties went out to find the hiding place(s) of the vampires. Yeah, rather than being even more afraid, they got really angry instead. The same people then started going to Volkane to get dragon’s blood again. We needed to wash off the blood painted on our houses and repaint it again with fresh dragon’s blood. The blood’s effect on the vampires might wear off if not replaced.
When the people who went to Volkane came back, everyone helped in repainting the houses with dragon’s blood. We finished repainting all the houses in just a short time. Another gathering by class was then held. We were at our usual area, by the hall. We were told that fighting the vampires with our necklaces on was no good. Even covering our whole body with dragon’s blood was said to be a stupid idea. They would just probably throw deadly things at us
After hours of searching, those who went out to find the hiding place(s) of the vampires returned. They failed.

Reign of the Unwanted - Night 1
Chronicles of Roika:
Reign of the Unwanted

Night 1
It was already dark. Most of the people were still outside. Suddenly, these creatures showed up from different directions. They looked really scary. Without warning, they attacked random people. They were fast... and powerful. They were heavily outnumbered yet they seemed to have no problem fighting us. We fought them ‘til it was dawn. Most of them left immediately right after feeding. They all left before the sun rose up.
An awful lot of people died.
When everything calmed down, we all gathered up in Saint Morning. Different locations were designated to each class. I was a blade, we were told to gather up in front of the hall. We were told about the vampires and ordered not to go out of our houses and just stay inside when it gets dark. So, why just stay inside our houses when they could easily destroy our doors, windows and walls? A story was told to us.
There was this family that was trying to find a safe place to avoid the vampires. The mother was carrying her baby. They were being guarded by the father. Soon, a vampire got to them. The father tried hard to get its attention and succeeded. He fought hard. He gave his all to save his family. Unfortunately, his opponent was just too strong for him. The father got badly wounded. When the vampire was about to finish him off, the mother suddenly approached the weakened man. The vampire was surprised. No, not because of the daring action of the woman, but rather, it was because of what the baby was wearing. It was a necklace given to her by her father and the vampire was looking at it with raging eyes. The vampire just stood back as if a barrier suddenly appeared around the three of them. Not wanting to go near them, it fled.
The questions then were... Why did the vampire let them be? Was it because of the baby or the baby’s necklace? What makes the baby or the necklace special?
We were told it was the necklace. No, it was what the necklace was holding. A Small bottle that contained a certain liquid, dragon’s blood. A plan was then thought out. It relied greatly on luck though. We needed to wear a necklace with a bottle containing dragon’s blood and have another one for spare just in case. We were also told to paint our doors, windows, roofs and walls with dragon’s blood. That’s the reason why we just have to stay inside when it gets dark. It was to be safe from the vampires assuming the dragon’s blood would work against them. If ever it doesn’t, we had a backup plan.
Right after the hearing, all of those who were able to go to Volkane went there. They weren’t that many. Actually, they weren’t many considering dragons are one of the strongest monsters in Roika. Only about less than a hundred went there. Almost half of them were ringmasters who volunteered to help out. Along with them were containers to be filled with dragon’s blood.
Those who were left behind were asked to help make the bottles needed for the necklaces. Everyone needed to make haste before it gets dark. By afternoon, those who went to Volkane returned. Each and every container was filled with dragon’s blood.
We were told to gather up by class again. Again, we were designated at the same place. There, we filled our bottles with dragon’s blood. We were told that as we were falling in line, others are already painting our houses with dragon’s blood.
Finally, we were all set. Each house was now filled with grouped individuals. We all wanted it to be that way just in case the vampires barge in. Carefully selected groups were chosen so that the number of individuals who can battle in a certain house will be enough to fend off the vampires. That was our way of ensuring protection. That was the backup plan. It takes about several men against a single vampire to make the fight “even”. Every house was now painted with dragon’s blood. Everyone now has a necklace on. Now, all we have to do is wait and hope for the best.
